if this is going to happen, I would rather be lying sad but safe as a girl in an Impressionist painting on this verdant riverbank, in the protective embrace of this tree, making circles past the fallen branch, angrily throwing rocks into the muddy water (except to avoid hurting a poor lone duck), listening to the trains rushing by under the confident moon

if this is going to happen, at least I am in the mystical, familiar world of my youth
